Marketing to Gen Y

We recently read an excellent article about Marketing to Generation Y – by the Marketingprofs.com.au, and it really got us thinking.

Whilst many of the employees here at Media Sound are Gen Y-ers, and we have seen first hand the differences in generations, it is still mesmerizing at how quickly and how much the world of marketing has changed over the last 10-years. In fact, with this new generation of marketing, things will never be the same again.

The traditional marketing channels are starting to dwindle, and we have witnessed this first hand with the closure of many printed publications. Generation Y in particular, need so much more. These guys are a social bunch, and they have been raised in the Internet era, and are therefore used to having everything literally at their fingertips.

And something that we have found in our own audio production business, and also heard from our customers, is that Generation Y-ers are well connected, and they search long and hard for feedback; through forums, friends and reviews, these guys want to know that they are going to get the real deal. So make sure you are able to deliver on your promises, and that you provide a quality product or service.

As marketers, we also found ourselves Audio Messagesnodding our heads when reading the MarketingProfs advice on not putting all your marketing dollars in one basket. Unlike advertising in the past, Generation Y are into everything, and you’re not just competing with local businesses, but businesses worldwide. You really need to make any impact to get noticed.

Media Sound offer a first-class audio production service, and we provide riveting audio messages that can be used through a number of marketing channels: radio, telephone onhold, online and face-to-face. Get the most from your multi-media marketing campaigns and call the audio professionals today on 1300 736 465.

Spock vs Spock for Audi

Audi has taken advantage of the social media hype surrounding the soon to be released Star Trek movie and created a new online ad which has quickly gone viral. Featuring the new Spock going head to head with the old Spock, its a witty, tongue in cheek ad with many hidden references to the movies for those huge trekkie fans out there.

In the clip, the new Spock, Zachary Quinto, challenges the old Spock, Leonard Nemoy to a race to the local country club. Quinto's "starship" is the new Audi S7 hatchback, while Nemoy drives the old school luxury of a Mercedes Benz coup. The really clever part about this ad is the interaction between the characters, with Nemoy stealing the show with his self deprecating sense of humor, and I love that he uses the old Vulcan trick to make Quinto fall to the ground. The icing on the cake is the appearance of the Audi driverless car that confounds both their logic.

So whats the moral of this story? This video was uploaded to Youtube 3 days ago, but it already has over 3 million views. That tells us that their marketing team is doing a pretty good job. Its important in the media industry to be able to stand out from the crowd, and creative script writing is a great way to do it. When you team that with talented voice artists, and top quality audio production you get the best voice over money can buy. At Media Sound we proudly supply those voice overs to you at a great cost and with a super quick turnaround. Why not let us help your next voice over, audio production, on hold message, or web video become the next big hit?

Do Celebrity Voiceovers Sell More Product?

Everyone knows that a celebrity draws a crowd. Thats why they often get invited to so many parties and have so many things given to them. Designers know if a particular celebrity is photographed wearing their clothing, it will boost sales. So does the same strategy work for voice overs?

The answer is yes and no. If the celebrity does not have a distinctive voice and is not featured visually in the ad, companies take the risk of the celebrity's voice

celebrity voiceover

not being recognised and end up paying a very high fee for a voiceover. Also voice acting is a different skill set than normal acting, and many famous people do not have the proper training for voice acting because it does not rely on any visual cues and needs to be approached slightly different.

Listeners might also associate a certain persona or opinion of a known actor whether its good or bad. For example if they have recently played a villain in a movie, they might not be the best choice for a touchy feely emotional ad, as people might still associate them with the bad guy character. Make sure the public opinion matches the feel of ad as you want it.

We have had the pleasure of working with many celebrities at our recording studios here at Media Sound, including sports teams, famous actors, and even the voice of Scooby Doo! We treat all of our voice artists with the same level of respect and make sure that every single voice over and audio production that leaves our studios is the best sound quality using the most professional audio mixing technology available. Ironwoman Courtney Hancock Recently Used Our Recording Studios

Congratulations to Courtney Hancock, winner of the 2013 Ironwoman competition. This is her second win, and it was a close race with defending champion Rebecca Creedy hot on her heels. But it was Hancock’s steely determination and strength that allowed her to paddle onto the winning wave that brought her to victory.

We have even more reason to cheer loudly for this Coffs Harbour native, as she recently was in our very own recording studios. She came in to record a voiceover for the below commercial for Skoda, lending her famous voice and striking us all with a little bit of fame.

At Media Sound, we specialise in voice overs for radio and tv commercials, on hold messages, radio imaging, jingles, and copywriting. Contact us today to organize your next voiceover project.

Man Finds Knife Stuck in His Back 3 Years After the Fight

Canadian man, Billy McNeely has had an itch in his back that he could never quite scratch. Imagine his surprise then, when he suddenly hit something sharp while scratching away. He got his girlfriend to take a look at it and she discovered after maneuvering the hard item around a bit, that the tip of a blade actually poked through the skin. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found a 7 cm long blade actually lodged into his back.

When he was taken to the hospital, doctors did not do an xray, instead just stitched up his wounds and sent him on his way. Thinking back on it now, McNeely remembers going through metal detectors several different times and setting them off, even when he had no change in his pockets, but he never would have guessed that it was due to the snapped off blade in his back.

The Creation of the Lava Lamp

lava lamp

Ahh, the lava lamp. It brings back happy memories of many evenings spent mesmerized by its flame like slow motion bubbles. But who was the creative genius who first envisioned this epitome of the 60s hippie movement? Edward Craven Walker is his name, an English accountant who also made underwater nudist films. He was inspired one late night at a pub when he saw an homemade egg timer created from a glass cocktail shaker filled with strange bubbling liquids on the stovetop.

Walker decided to perfect the design, and set about to use a lightbulb as the heat generator. Using an old Orange Squash bottle, he filled it with two mutually insoluable liquids, a water based, and a wax based one. Apparently the exact recipe is a secret, but there is one key ingredient which is a type of carbon tetrachloride, which helps weigh down the wax so it sits at the bottom of the bottle.

The sleek, rocket like look of the lamp made it a perfect fit for the era, channeling the space age craze and selling millions of units. Its a perfect example of a product that made it big just by being in the right place at the right time and meeting the needs of the public at large.

In this era, there may not be such a high demand for space shaped groovy lights, but there is a definite need for professional voice overs and audio productions. Whether its for radio ads, tv commercial voiceovers, radio imaging, on hold messages, or website videos and elearning projects, quality voiceovers at a competative price are something the public need now. At Media Sound, we can help with all of the above, using our wide variety of professional voice artists to voice your script exactly the way you want it. And with our fast turnaround times, you will have a completed audio production in no time, ready for you to use however you please. How to Use Google Alerts to Help Your Business

As a business owner or manager, we know you have a lot of things on your plate already. So your probably asking yourself why should I add another thing to my already long to do list? Google alerts is an easy way to keep an eye on what people are saying about your company and to see what your compettion is doing. It only takes a few minutes to set up, and you can set it to only receive 1 email a day or even once a week so your inbox doesn't pile up with emails.

google alerts

I would recommend at least 3 different alerts or groups of alerts. The first one will be your company name. This will obviously let you know how often google is indexing your sites, and how well your social media marketing is performing.

The second type of alerts should be set up for your keywords. This will let you know when there is news in your industry or what other companies out there are also using the same keywords.

The last type of alert to set up could include some of your competitors keywords or company names. This will let you know when they start a new marketing campaign or introduce new products to the market so you can keep current.

The great thing about this free service is that not only is it simple and easy to set up and edit, but that its an easy way to keep current with the market and your competition without having to spend hours trolling websites and news feeds. For example, since here at Media Sound, we specialise in voiceovers, audio productions, radio ads, etc, we might have those keywords set up in a daily alert, and I can take the 20 seconds to skim each email alert to decide whether it is relevant or not. Its just one of the ways we keep ahead of our competition and remain the top choice in Australia for quality fast voiceovers, radio imaging, on hold messages, and elearning projects

The Best Internet April Fool’s Jokes

Everyone loves April Fool's Day. Its an opportunity to pull a prank on a friend, or just tell that annoying neighbor how you really feel about them without starting a war! I'm sure there have been many pranks pulled, but some of the best ones have been accomplished by several large companies who are not afraid to have a little bit of fun at their own expense. Check out my top picks below.

1. Youtube –  it was all just a giant video contest. Posting this official video on their page, Youttube has annouced that they will be closing the site for the next ten years to have judges review all the videos and choose the best one.

2. Virgin Airlines – Virgin annouced on their blog that they have added a glass bottom feature to some of their planes in a nod to advernturers everywhere.

3. Google – launches Google Nose, a brand new technology where you can have access to millions of different scents via your own internet sommolier.

4. The White House –  the official White House youtube page has released a new video showing a kid version of the president making fart jokes and talking politics.

5. American Eagle  – US trendy teen clothing retailer offers a special for spray on jeans in a can for that super tight skinny jean look.

Did you pull any great April Fool's Jokes? Fortunately for our coworkers, this year it fell on a public holiday, otherwise there would have been some great pranks pulled in our offices. After all, being a company that specialises in voiceovers means that the opportunities are virtually endless for the amazing pranks we could pull. I guess we will just have to wait until next year however, and spend the time until then creating top quality voice overs, radio commercials and radio imaging, web videos, and on hold messages, while we plot our perfect prank!

7 Social Media Lessons We Can Learn from Dr. Suess

Dr. Suess was a lot more than someone who was good at making up words that rhymed. He was a visionary genius with deep insights into the nature of humanity and apparently an ability to tell the future and give advice that would be relevant to today's social media marketing.

dr suess

1. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." It's important to be yourself and to be honest about that when you are on social media platforms.Don't try to pass off other people's content as yours, and stay true to your ownw voice. Include information especially on a business profile that shows your human side.

2. "So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads." Keep things short and simple. There is no point to keep telling your customers the same thing. Figure out a way to reinforce your branding through all aspects of your updates, whether its text, links, images, or videos –  if you make your voice unique you will not have to fight for recognition.

3. "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." Remember to keep things clear and simple. Realise that your followers may not come from the same set of values or ideas that you do, and may interpret your posts differently than you intended.

4. "For a host, above all, must be kind to his guests." We have seen the errors of the big companies that have been too liberal or nonchalant with their social media updates. Don't forget that what you write is there for the world to see, and that it could possibly offend some people, so its always better to err of the side of politeness.

5. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Social media has become a great place to take a stand on important issues and to join with others from around the world who care about the same issues as you. Use it as a space to let your followers know the things you care about and support those groups who are making a difference in our world.

6. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." While you do need to make sure you are not offending others, its also important to be true to your business and branding, even if it does mean that there will be people who do not agree. Develop a set of social media guidlines and make sure any employees who update your sites are within the boundaries.

7. "Oh, the things you can find if you don't stay behind!" Don't be afraid to step out a bit and try something new. Engage other businesses and individuals in a variety of areas, and experiment with different types of intereactions to see what gets the most results from your customers.

Do you have a favourite Dr. Seuss quote that you use for your life or business mantra? One of our favourites at Media Sound is this one, "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" We take this quote to heart, making sure that we don't fit in with our competition, but rather stand out in the crowd. We know you have a lot of great options when it comes to who you choose for your voiceover or audio production product, and that is why we are so glad you continue to choose us. Whether its for our outstanding customer service, professional quality voiceover productions, or lighting fast turnaround, we will make sure we continue to to stand out and set the bar for the industry.

8 Ways Voice Over Acting is Different than Porn Acting

As much as some people might find a lot of similarities between these two professions, there are quite a few distinct differences.

1. No fluffers in voice over acting. If you don't know what a fluffer is, ask your mother.

2. The voice talent is generally much less sexy, as all the talent needed is vocal rather than visual

3. With voiceovers, the script is king. With porn, not so much.

4. Its simple and easy to repeat and rerecord the "money shots". No breaks are needed to ahem "recharge".

5. In voiceover acting you don't have to get naked. Or you can if you want, it doesn't really make a difference.

6. You don't have to worry about catching nasty diseases.

7.  No post recording shower is needed. Unless its the middle of summer and the recording studio doesn't have air conditioning.

8. No one cares what you look like, much less what you look like naked.

At Media Sound studios, we provide quality voiceovers and audio productions. With completed projects all over Australia and the world and productions including radio ads, television commercials, website videos, post production sync, studio hire, and much more; we can meet your audio needs.
